Finally got my hands on a scanner, so i can scan in some of my work and even make some concept art for our modellers. I finally got a registered IRC channel up: irc.gamesnet.net #silentassassins I'll be there most of the time to answer your questions!

Mapping and coding news today.
I uploaded an ingame render of the new proximity mine, skinned and modelled by me. Of course we are still working a lot on our maps, getting them linked together for example. I have been working on updating the bot's AI. It's progressing slowly. Well here are some pictures of things we have been doing:

Got back to work after a break in the last week. You might have noticed a bit less updates.
I finally fixed the last bug and packed version 0.009 for release. It contains the following improvements:
  • WordWrap for mission description
  • Rewrote lots of code more dynamicly
  • Multiple objectives possible
  • Fixed carcass problem
  • Fixed some bugs in stealthmode
  • New hud (again )
  • Enhanced enforcer coded
  • Menu's coded
  • More difference between SA: hunted and SA
  • Save and load game works (a few glitches excepted)!

    Large status update today!
    0.009 beta1 has been sent out to some betatesters and we got some good response. The beta 2 is in the making already. Besides that Hazel has worked on the hud once again. We hope it will be included in beta 2.
    We got a new teammember on the team: nick cochran. He is gonna do some skinning and might give us a hand with modelling. I'll update the staff section with his details as soon as possible!
    Daniel a.k.a Supers51 has made some progress on the crossbow for SilentAssassins, he has started an attempt to skin it already.
    And I uploaded four picture of hazel's SilentAssassins maps:

    Update for the update lovers. I have been working a lot to get the bugs fixed in 0.009. There will be major changes in the code for 0.009, in fact most of the work has already been done *wipes sweat from forehead*. Some bugfixes:
    Enhanced Enforcer has been finished up (except the model!) and works great. Shoot the bots and they will fall into sleep (for 30 seconds).
    Menu's are finished including save and load game.
    Lives have been reduced to one :). You won't respawn! Except in the SilentAssassins: Hunted mode where you still have 3 lives.
    And lots of other bugs which i already forgot about :)

    Ok, time for a little progress update for the guys who check the site, mapping goes well. We finally started to map along the storyline. I'll look into getting some screenshots soon. Of course i am still coding, refreshing and updating some old code. I have been working on the Enhanced Enforcer (that's how i call it now). It will have 2 types of ammo! Normal bullets and tranquilizer darts. The victim will drop on the floor when shot with those. He will wake up after a certain amount of time. It's incredible handy for sneaking past gaurds without killing them all. Last but not least: the enforcer will probably be equipped with a small zoom.

    It seemed that we have the very first render on the site. I hope you enjoy it (I know that i do). It took a while, but it seems that Daniel "Supers51" Kabat will provide us with some more magic in 2003!
    SilentAssassins 0.009 will be a quick release somewhere in the coming month. From now on the releases will be on download in 2 different formats: The full version and a patch from the previous version to the latest one. The patch is for people with a slow connection which only want the updated files.

    We are probably getting permission to use SpatialFear textures soon. Why you ask? We don't have any good texturing people on the team. At least my communication skills didn't let me down. We still need to get complete support and work out the credits.
    Our (lazy) modeller has a deadline to make for tommorow, hope we'll be able to admire his models soon. Below 3 pictures of the Tarydium mine i am working on (still qualified as test map) with some of the new textures.

    Haven't posted a lot of news during the holidays, because there wasn't any. Most of the staff members (including me) were enjoying their holidays. The site was down from 31 dec till somewhere on 1 januari, sorry about that. You can expect more news as soon as i am settled down again!

    Good news, christmas fella's!
    I have decided to release 0.008, not much new additions to the maps. However lots of code/features have been added since 0.007!!!

    Huge list with changes from 0.007 to 0.008:

    -Stealthmode in water is fixed --> can't go stealth in the water
    -Stealthmode won't be lost when you zoom!
    -Jump while change of camera is fixed
    -New Scope for the sniperrifle is in-game, old UT rifle has been replaced
    -Additional beta2 --> beta3 : Scope texture is now sharper!
    -New ladder code working in beta 3, jump to go up fast. Look up to go up slowly, Look down to go down.
    -Stealth only decreases if you are moving (testing it in this release)
    -Some stealth tweaks
    -Impact hammer removed, no more impact hammer jumping
    -Press restart button to exit camera's
    -Restarting can now be toggled
    -Fixed bots attacking you while viewing camera's
    -Can't go stealth while shooting
    -Weapon tweak base is done
    -New Candy AI system
    -Flares added
    -Test logo added
    -Bot Comlink is open
    -AutoSwitch to weapon added by SaPlayerStart
    -Stealthmode is lost quicker when shooting, it used to take +-1 second before it was lost

    I released 0.008 beta 3 a tiny bit later then expected to the staff/beta testers. I improved the installer and i made sure that most of the bugs from early versions are fixed. We all hope 0.008 will be released before christmas, but no garantees :)
    MMAN UGITU has been added to our staff as mapper. Let's hope he will have a great time, I already updated the Staff section with his details.

    Coding goes very well, I fixed all known issues and added some new features. Here is the complete list for version 0.008 beta3 (will be handed out to the staff/beta testers this week):

    Coding for 0.008 is nearly done, now the team just needs to finish some maps.
    As a mod team we always have a shortage in the staff. We don't pay, hard work and you just get a silly line in the credits. You guessed it, here is the offer: anyone who is doing mapping/skinning, doesn't matter how good or bad. As long as you got a bit of talent we will be able to use you.     Ok, this is the current list of bug fixes for 0.008.
    Fixed from 0.007 to 0.008:

    -Stealthmode in water is fixed --> can't go stealth in the water

    -Bots don't taunt when dead (no respawn makes dead taunts look weird :)
    -New ladder code in beta stage, jump to go up fast. Forward to go up slowly, backwards to go down.

    Improvements from 0.006 to 0.007:

    Took a break for a few days (i was playing the third reich, but keep that quiet), but i'm back and i started to update the site a bit. Don't be alarmed if the design changes a few times. We are just testing the possibilities :)
    You can also expect a release on saturday or sunday, if everything goes well.
    The testers have already tested the installer, it looks positive!

    After a hard time getting in contact with our modeller (his email doesn't work), i managed to gather some info on the things he has been doing lately. He finished the concept art for all guns! We can expect models as soon as this week.
    More good news:
    I'm coding on some story effects in-game, it's coming along nicely. Last, but not least: i'm going to buy and enjoy UT2003 this week!

    Working hard here! I release our story (beta1) to the team and i put some of it online, check our story section in the navigation bar.
    We can now recruit mappers and we always wanted to have a skinner! :P Count on many support for the mappers.

    This is a preview release, we know it's not finished :P.

    Fixed since 0.005:
  • Fixed some(all?) accessed none's
  • Game ends when player or bots suicides(this is fixed for sure!)
  • Some general bugs fixed!
  • Credits level has adjusted gameplay
  • You can pickup multiple pieces of evidence!
  • Mission objectives screen times out in 5 seconds
  • You lose stealthmode when you shoot...
  • Mappers can remove killing all bots as goal! Killing all bots is a goal by default...
  • All bots have the same model and skin, changed bot names (because female names just don't fit a male model!)
  • Bots are adapted to stealth mode, you are totally invisible to them (don't bump them you fool!) :P
  • Bots spawn with 1 of these weapons (random)
    1. shockrifle
    2. flak cannon
    3. rocket launcher (a.k.a eightball)


    SilentAssassins gametype features:
  • The player(assassin) needs to complete a mission while fighting against the bots(agents of the enemy)
  • You can play any DM map as SilentAssassins map!
  • If there is evidence(books you can pickup) in the map bring it to an extractionzone (indicated by an icon of a spaceship in the hud when entered!).
  • Bots don't respawn
  • StealthMode(activated by feign death key!), makes you nearly invisible for 10 seconds max.

    Known Issues:
  • Stealthmode goes crazy in water (I forget to fix this one all the time :P)
  • When you zoom with the sniper, stealthmode is lost! (It thinks that you are shooting)
  • Cheat/Bug: Before entering stealthmode alt-fire if you hold a biorifle/rocket launcher
    to charge and when you shoot the charge: stealthmode won't be lost! Have fun :P
  • The player skin needs improvement: we need skinners!


    Maps:
    There are 3 additional maps included, 1 credits map and 2 SA maps. However these maps are not finished and are only there to give you something and to see how they feel.

    SilentAssassins gametype features:
    The player(assassin) against the bots(agents of the enemy)
    You can play any DM map as SilentAssassins map!.

    The player(assassin) has 3 lives including the time you spawn ;). However each bot has only 1 life and won't respawn if they get killed.
    HUD is nearly finished, objectives screen only shows if there are missions in the map and it doesn't work correctly yet!

    First public release, you can call it an alpha (count down till 1.0 for ut2k3!).
    This should be a almost bug free version to finish the UT version with.
